about

Yes the title says it. Worthing pier again. A week ago today. What a day it was. Small pleasures.

A few days ago I wobbled and nearly hit the bottle. I've been dry so far all of 2023. Today is "day 107" - I know it because I keep count. Fortunately there's always something to look forward to and that stops me getting drunk and just retreating into my house and staying here for a fortnight of what nowadays is pretty dull drunkenness. I must always remember the pleasures that sobriety give. The news is never dull. I can get a bag of frozen veg for about a quid and that makes about four days of soup, four days of eating, I can live on about £2 per week apparently, though it never works out like that. I can still drink the tap water. I think my neighbours are okay. There's masses of films to watch at the cinema, many for free. If I ever do feel gloomy I just remember that everyone else I know is utterly miserable and that's a (cold) comfort. I have a job. This. Yes I call this a "job", even though I love it and so far it amounts to a bag of frozen veg. It's spring. My garden buzzes with big bees. I can still walk forever. Millions of other things too. Nothing very big, maybe. But god, imagine if I couldn't walk, or all the bees died, or I started drinking again - it'd be two weeks of being without days like Worthing. It would be awful. So the opposite must be beautiful.
