WEDNESDAY 27 FEBRUARY

Wooo-hooo - the previous one wasn't just a bit of good luck - here is the second good one in a row - Sonja is out of the doldrums at last !!!! Oh the RELIEF !!! I feared that I'd burnt out. But no one ever burns out. Even people over thirty can still make great music. No one needs to get all conservative.

In fact - the older you get the more you think Oh Fuck It and you just don't care - and I don't care that this piece of music will drive any listeners up the wall - that guitar going on and on and on. But it is gentle. And god wouldn't it be brilliant to hear this kinda stuff while really blitzed. But sadly I can't. I'm the only person I know who doesn't know what my music sounds like when you're pissed.

But it is my burden to be sober at all times - to be able to drive at a moment's notice. What a bore. Maybe one of the things that broke my musical-blockage was a thrilling email I received yesterday. It was from David Allison. From Custom Made Music. They release stuff by some bloke from The Dandy Warhols. Oh wow. And David J ex of Bauhaus. How I loved Bauhaus.

Dave Allison said that he liked my music and offered to put a track of mine on their new album. Fantastic. The high point of my musical career so far. Obviously I looked to see if there was any money mentioned in the email - and there was - sixty-five dollars. I purred with pleasure all day. Fame at last. Sharing a CD with someone from the Dandy Warhols !!!

Is there anything better than that ??!!! I told everyone I met all about it. Fortunately I don't meet many people. Cos this morning I re-read the email and noticed a catch. That $65 - it wasn't them paying me. It was me paying them. I was meant to pay them sixty-five dollars and send a track and then they'd send me a CD with my track on it and oh bugger I've been crying all day today.

So near and so far. But what a thing - to make a track and send it off with $65 to someone so they can put it on a CD and send it back to me. But I guess labels are in trouble and that is their new way of making money. Punters/fans aren't paying for music anymore. So get the musicians to pay for the music. But it's given me a good idea.

If my music career continues in ignominy for much longer I might send random emails to hundreds of Bandcamp artists telling them to send me a thousand dollars and then I'll put one of their tracks on a CDR with the drummer from Dodgy. There is always hope. Never be embarrassed to put a zero in the download payment thingy for Sonja's stuff. I don't expect to get paid for any of it or to pay $65 so someone in America can send me a CD of it.
