WEDNESDAY 23 JANUARY

For my next piece of music I was going to take a year off and grab Ableton from Pirate Bay and spend 24/7/52 learning every crevice of it and then hit the world with something amazing and beautiful and original. But then I thought Bugger It - no I'll just do the same old shit I usually do - do something for six seconds and then repeat it forever. And that is what I have done.

Yes it is this month's hyperminimal hadj - always my favourite piece of music each month - though the world is not yet ready for such things. It is a worry. I so want to be a part of the musical elite but I am too lazy to take a year out and learn how to make the regulation hissing noise that gets you noticed. This is a hissy piece. But it is the wrong kind of hiss. So instead I'll spend the next year making about 250 albums and still end up down here where I started and people who make one album per decade will stay up at the top.

Punk changed nothing. The internet has changed nothing. Social mobility in music is just as difficult now as it always was - just as economic social-mobility is if-anything harder than ever. I'll be quite honest - this Bandcamp Pro thing hasn't yielded any dividends yet. I tried to get that Google Analytics on the go but the people in the Google office were obviously having a coffee break and I was told to try again later. And anyway what good would any of that info do me ? The info I'm getting as it is is a worry.

It's depressingly obvious that most of the visitors to these pages are searching for anything except my music - a lot of google searches from Russians clearly looking for some old school-friend called Sonja who now lives in Berlin. But at least it keeps the graphs looking lively. That's the main thing. It doesn't matter how crap you are or how unpopular - all that matter are appearances.

I have decided to make my dismal figures on Twitter look a bit less embarrassing by opening millions of google-mail accounts and then opening millions of Twitter accounts and then getting all the Twitterers to follow each other. It'll be hard work - but it'll be something to do in the long empty hours between making albums on Bandcamp.

Yes life is dull - but I'm having such a ball feeling sorry for myself that I kinda hope it never changes. I just want another life so I can look back on this one and think "You know what Sonja - it felt pretty shitty at the time but with hindsight it was all bloody hilarious - one huge big fucking joke."
