THURSDAY 13 DECEMBER

This is a return to basics. Like everyone - I sell out from time to time. Move away from the beautiful and the pure and drift into a world of compromise and trying to fit in with what "everyone"'s idea of music is. Suddenly I find I'm making music that sounds like it wants to be Godspeed. God help me.

Then it is time to pull up sharply and either kill myself or do something totally hyperminimal. This is almost totally hyperminimal. It's not 100%. But its deviations are almost inaudible and I doubt anyone will get far enough into it to reach the parts where it tries to be more interesting - always a terrible mistake, trying to be interesting. I tried it on Twitter once. I came across as a cunt. I need to learn my limitations. Unbelievably, no section of Hyperminimal Hadj is identical to any other section.

But I do expect to see a lot of red on the Bandcamp graphs - indicating people who played the piece but gave up after seven microseconds. Don't worry about me. I won't be downhearted. Quite the opposite. To do something so at odds with what the human race likes is a huge success. If I ever doubt it I go to the Daily Mail readers' comment sections - I go to the "worst rated" area - here I find my fellow thinkers.

I'll try to do a Hyperminimal Hadj every month. In 2012 & 2013 & 2014 they will sound terrible. But when my grandchildren write my Discogs biography they'll say that the Sonja Berlin-Jones Hypmerminimal Hadj is what makes them proudest - and everything else will be forgotten - all the complex shit - the clever shit - the hypermaximal crap that you needed to listen to 59 times before you started to spot the tiny subtleties in among the shouting and the walls of struggle as people work and work and work to make everything worse and worse - to end on a couple of cliches - nature is the best gardener - and laziness&haste are the best musicians.
