I like this one a lot. This is the kind of music I have to make for myself - because nobody else likes it and so nobody else makes it. You've got to. This is the only chance you get. It's like with fanzines back years ago. You get so sick of everyone else's fanzines with their fawning reviews of record label shit and their matey mates' shit and no one brave enough to admit that almost everything is shit. Same with novels- how all the reviews are written by chums.

So in the end you're forced to DIY. It's a good thing. And not that anyone reads proper album reviews in proper publications any more but back in the days when people did - you could forget for a moment that everyone knew everyone else and never solve the mystery of why so much crap music gets described as good - how Arcade Fire are meant to be brilliant - says the lady who fucks the drummer. Every time a punky-style revolution happens - that's why. Cos people lie and suck up.

And talking of proper albums - the first ever proper Sonja Berlin-Jones is now available. It is a ground-breaking hyperminimal masterpiece. It really is. Four tracks in almost 80 minutes. The first is an edit/remix of something from ages ago so long ago that I've forgotten it - ie more than about two weeks old. Ha ha no - but it's from my pre-Bandcamp era. It's fast and loud and sexy and gloriously repetitive. Then a quiet unique thing.


Then a gallumphing beautiful remix/edit of something else from my glorious past. And then finally another quiet one. So a marvellous album. It's a limited edition of only 25 copies. I don't know why I say "only" - I have a nasty feeling I'm a hard act to shift. Again - all down to my failure to network. Stupidly I'm one of those musicians who wastes time making music rather than busily sucking up to all the right people. Oh woe oh suck oh chew oh moan.


Never mind. They will go eventually. And the people who have them won't be sorry - waving them at their grandchildren as proof that they were into SBJ before anyone else and there'll be one copy on Discogs for £2999999-99. Many thanks to Rest/Relax/Records for having faith - the glory will be yours too. I feel like it's a Brain Records / first-album-by-Harmonia (or NEU!) moment.
