((Warning - this is terrible - it's 2 duds in a row now))

- Yes it is true - I did think about experimenting. This piece is so shit that it has freed me. It happened just as I was about to export this piece of music. It had started out wanting to be a minimal techno track. But it all got too chaotic. So then I thought I'd turn it into a harsh noise track.

But I'd already put twenty minutes of work into the track and it's a bit sad to spend that long on just a harsh noise track - they only usually take about a minute to make. So I stuck in some more rhythms and thought I'd make a rhythmic noise track. But that just sounded like a train going by. So I turned everything down and thought it would be nice to make it a drone track.

Then I repeated the piece for about six hours and then added delay of about half one segment's length and then cut it back down to a reasonable length and it was just a noisy drone piece so I added some more rhythms and tried to make it a straight-forward techno track. And then I turned up the gain.

And then I got bored and thought it was a good time to export it and that is when I had this sudden flash of Eureka-ism. I thought - what if I didn't try to make a track that fitted into a genre. What if I made an experimental track that actually experimented ? By then it was too late. I was bored of making music and exported it anyway. And here it is. A load of old bollocks.

But I want to remember that feeling for the next time. On other matters - I was going to kill off my music-making but instead I have killed off my blog. Something had to give. My blog was easy and beautiful and a joy but it didn't further my chances of getting to mix with Wolfgang Voigt and Brian Eno.

Making two hundred albums a year - maybe one of them will be good enough to grab their attention. So I shall carry on making music. The interior decorating is almost finished and the house is much tidier and I now have a bit of space to work and I shall be able to make my free CDRs again - if I've promised you some in the past, these promises will be honoured - that's a(nother) promise.

I don't think this piece is good enough to be worth burning to CDR and making all the covers etc. But the crapness of this piece of music has emboldened me to raise my game next time. No genres. Not musique concrete. Not "experimental" or "avant garde". Just musique sonjamais.
