SUNDAY 30 DECEMBER

ooooooh I do like this one a LOT - it is like one of my children who I know will be too sensitive and beautiful for school so I have to throw away everything and live like a gypsy and keep her wild and unschooled and she will never be a lawyer or a doctor in a soft easy chair and it will take years for the world to understand her and it will never tame her. It is not an obviously crazy-wild piece of music. Quite the opposite. It sounds very buttoned-up. It took eight minutes to make. I know. I timed it. I knew if I went over ten minutes I'd be going backwards.

It is a piece that demands to be put on repeat-play. Anyone bonkers enough to try it will understand why. Good eh ? Don't be alarmed but I am seriously thinking of going "pro". Yes - become a real professional. I'm not talking about charging for my downloads. I've done that already - not that anyone paid any money - and that has already given me the confidence to mix with other real professional musicians and join in all their boring conversations about our favourite Sun City Girls LPs.

What I'm talking about is going Bandcamp Pro - paying for the premium services. I don't think any of the extra abilities will be remotely useful to me. Maybe they'll be bad for me. It means my tracks can be longer than 28 minutes - which will horrify some of my older fans. And - now I have got used to limiting myself to 28 minutes - me too. No - it's just a guilt thing.

Bandcamp already has about thirty trillion gigabytes of my music locked up in their cupboard somewhere and that is just a few months' work. If I'm still at this malarky in 2023 then things will be falling off their shelves and they'll be cursing me for taking up so much room. I must give something back - they haven't had a penny off me or you and they can't be doing it just for the pleasure of our company. So be careful - my transition to a proper musician is almost complete.
