Yes I can tell you I am really staggered - this is always a very depressing time of year - mainly because of all the End Of Year Lists. Incredibly - I don't seem to be on any of them. What is wrong with everyone ? Okay - maybe they haven't heard of me. I am still up-and coming and have only been on Bandcamp a few months and only made a few dozen albums in that time - still some way to go till I overtake Hal McGee & Elizabeth Veldon.

But even putting my own ego to one side - the lists this year are staggeringly awful. Everyone is lost. There is no way of knowing how eccentric anyone's list is. Every list looks like a totally random dip into the Pitchfork archive. Half the albums probably don't even exist. How would anyone know ? Who is checking up on all this ?

For the last 24 hours I have been busy in the comment sections of all the UK newspaper websites concocting my own Best Albums Of The Year lists - and including ten or twenty of my own. I can't tell you how painful it is to also have to include Godspeedyoublackemperor in these lists. But no one will take you seriously unless you do.

In previous eras it would be a bit like admitting you didn't like Jethro Tull or The Charlatans or Nirvana or The Stone Roses or The Who or The Glitter Band or Jimmy Savile. The people who don't like music have always had a huge influence on music - but it never lasts - history catches up with them.

My new album is very beautiful - it's too late to put it into your list for 2012 - but it's definitely a contender for your 2013 list. It is almost exactly the same as my previous album but without the piano. I realised yesterday that the piano had been a mistake.

This morning I realised that the non-piano had been a mistake too. But by then it was too late - my mind was set - and this is the result - a pure high drone - the electronic equivalent of The Lark Ascending. The bits of distortion that sound like your speakers can't cope with the frequencies - they're deliberate.

This is one of the tricks of the musical trade. Pretend everything is deliberate and planned. Even though absolutely nothing is. This is the best drone track I've heard all year. Seriously. It's not false-immodesty. It's one of the best albums of this century. But that will just have to remain our little secret - until the cops have caught up with Godspeed - there's just something a bit fishy about them. Never trust a hippy. I might have to change the title to something a bit more snappy.

This is how I always shoot myself in the foot. How the hell is Thurston Moore going to remember what this album is called with a title like that ? Oh fuck it. None of it matters. Our consolation this Christmas is to lie back and think of Britain listening to its terrible listy music - the good nice people don't need to fight back against it - I shall be spending all of Christmas just laffing & laffing & laffing & laffing & laffing & laffing
